The songs I write grow out of the challenges of life
experience, the love and support of many beloved people in
my life, and an abiding faith in the power of the natural
world. All of these influences repeatedly bring
me back to questions of heart and spirit.
As I find a musical voice for these questions I discover
that they are where we start; and, no matter how far
we wander, they are ultimately where we return. The very
writing of these songs is a healing and affirming
experience for me. My hope is that listening to them
may be healing and affirming for others as well.
In my daily life with music I consider myself primarily a
teacher, and I perform only occasionally. Thus this
web site is one of the ways I can share my own music more
widely. In my teaching I use a combination of
movement, song, improvisation, instrumental work, and
integrated disciplines--all with the goal of artistic and
authentic expression. Teaching children and training
music educators inspires and fills me. Settings have
included public schools in the Boston area, Boston
Conservatory, U. Mass. Lowell, U.New Hampshire, and Lesley
College. Awards include New England Water Environment
Association Public Educator for 2003, Lexington Education
Foundation summer fellowship for improvisational studies;
Fannie Mae Teacher of the Year.
I am currently involved in fellowships for improvisation
and Jazz studies.
